Our Mission, Our Why!
So why be in the early childhood field? It’s not the easiest that’s for sure! Throw in a recent pandemic and some kids who didn’t go outside their homes for 2 years, it makes for an even more interesting formula! We are still here because they matter! There must be people in the world that are advocates for kids’ social emotional learning, brain development and those impactful kid memories!
We’ve been in business since 1995 so that chaos of managing a building full of kids is nothing new, however the one thing that stayed consistent the entire time was our passion. We are more than proud to say that the stress, hard work and worry has paid off — we are still able to positively connect with preschool families here in Colorado Springs 25+ years later!
We work weekends, stay up late, come in early — all to make sure that our families have the absolute best program and early education for their kids. From cleaning toilets to chopping 10 lbs of fresh oranges for meals, we do it with absolute joy! Your babies are only babies once and we want to make sure they have a childhood to remember!
Meet our Executive Director, Ms. Jenn!
Hi I’m Jenn! I’m your Executive Director here at YSA but I’m also a mom, a grandma, a graduate and the janitor, ha! (No literally you may catch me cleaning toilets from time to time!)
The most important thing I want you to know about me is that I am in love with this field. I’ve been with Young Scholars Academy since 2001 and I’m just as passionate about it today as when I first got started. Like many others in this field, I first started out with little experience besides my own children (all grown and full of their own opinions now) and worked as the Lead Teacher in the Prekindergarten program.
“My kids have grown up here, I have grown a lot as a person, Young Scholars is my life’s work.”
I chose to progress in my degree, knowledge and experience because I wanted to make an impact on more than one set of children. I’ve sat on many boards throughout Colorado Springs that advocate not only for kids, but for teachers. I’ve been the President of the local chapter of the NAEYC program, and most recently started my own ECE Advocate page, since I know ultimately I can impact more families if I do my part I empowering today’s teachers!
One of the best things about my job is the ability for my grands and my family to be here too! You’ll likely see us picnicking, or sneaking the grands out of class for a quick Baby Shark break. See you soon!
Meet Our Assistant Director, Ms. Jordan!
Wait, for real? Yes! Ms. Jordan was once a ‘Young Scholar!’
I did the Preschool, Pre-K program, and Summer Camp. When I got older and couldn't attend anymore, I took out the trash and even cleaned the toilets. I'm one of those kids that just never left. Now my goal is to connect with families and their children so that they can have a great upbringing at Young Scholars just like I did. I guess you could say that a positive early childhood education is that important to me!
Being that it is my family’s business I have many roles here doing anything and everything that needs done, but technically I am the Assistant and Marketing Director. I have schooling specifically in Early Childhood Education and Marketing.
My husband Bryan and I have two kids of my oun that attend as well. Not to be biased (wink) but they’re the perfect combination of spicy and smart and a lot of it has to do with their time here and the early Preschool and Infant programs! Just seeing the impact my teammates have made on them and the relationships they’ve formed makes me believe in our mission that much more.
I love racing kids down the hallways and capturing the school's moments throughout the day. Young Scholars Academy truly is my second home and cannot picture my life without this place.
Meet Our Assistant Director, Ms. Tenesha!
Ms. Tenesha is a gem to the Early Childhood Field! She’s originally from Jamaica and you’ll likely hear her big, positive voice before you see her! She’s been part of the Young Scholars family for 8 years and grown so much during that time.
Ms. Tenesha has experience in almost every age group throughout the building but primarily works one on one with new families now! With a family of her own that attends, she understands how important it is to have a strong connection with your child’s potential teachers.
“It’s a beautiful day to change lives, I do it everyday!” -Ms. Tenesha
Now It’s Time To Meet Our Team!
Now you may ask how do we pick someone to join the teaching team? We are particular about who we let into our fold. We do not just look for people looking for a “job.” Brain development is so much more important than that, thus in the hiring process we try to take the time to learn about the teacher’s personal lives, teaching style and temperaments.
So many of our team members are mothers so they know how important your little is, you deserve all the communication (and the pictures!) Meet some of our teammates!
